University at Buffalo (UB) - New York State's premier public center for graduate and professional education, as well as the state's largest and most comprehensive public university. A member of the State University of New York system (SUNY), UB is comprised of three campuses; North Campus in suburban Amherst, South Campus in Buffalo's University Heights district, and the CoE in downtown Buffalo.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute - Founded in 1898 by Dr. Roswell Park, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) was America's first cancer center. Over its long history, RPCI has made fundamental contributions to reducing the cancer burden and has successfully maintained an exemplary leadership role in setting the national standards for cancer care, research and education.

Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute - The Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI) is an independent, not-for-profit, biomedical research facility located in the heart of downtown Buffalo's medical campus. For half a century, HWI scientists have been committed to improving human health through study, at a molecular level, of the causes and potential cures of many diseases.

The state's five Centers of Excellence support high technology ventures through a collaborative approach among the State, academia, private venture capital companies, and other private and public sector parties.

New York State Office of Science, Technology, and Academic Research (NYSTAR) - NYSTAR works to further high-technology academic research and economic development in New York State.
